TikTok Favorites has no search. Here's how to actually find a video you saved

You know you saved it. It was the pasta thing, or the packing trick, or the place in Lisbon, and now you're thumbing through a wall of silent thumbnails trying to recognise one frame of a video you watched once, months ago.

This isn't you being disorganised. TikTok has no keyword search inside Favorites. Not by caption, not by sound, not by creator, not by anything you typed. You get the order you saved them in, and folders you have to build by hand.

Why you can't find it

There's no search, and the search bar doesn't help

The search bar at the top of the app searches all of public TikTok, not your bookmarks. There is no equivalent for the videos you saved. Past a couple of hundred Favorites you are scrolling and hoping.

It's in a different pile than you think

TikTok has three places a video can end up, and they don't look very different from each other. A lot of "lost" videos were hearted in passing rather than bookmarked, which puts them somewhere you aren't looking. The three places are below.

You're in the wrong account

Worth ruling out early if you run more than one.

The video is genuinely gone

The one nobody expects. If the creator deletes the video, makes their account private, or gets removed, your saved copy goes with it. Favorites is a list of pointers, not a library. You never had your own copy.

There's no notification when this happens. You just find a grey square where the recipe used to be. It's the same across every platform: saved posts can disappear without warning covers what makes them vanish and what survives.

The three places TikTok keeps saved videos

Favorites: the bookmark icon

What most people mean by saving. Open your Profile, then tap the bookmark (Saved) icon in the row above your videos. Saved videos sit under Posts, newest first.

Collections: folders inside Favorites

Same area, separate tab. Folders you create yourself: Recipes, Travel, Home Projects. To file something, open a saved video, tap Manage, and add it to a collection.

This is the only organisation TikTok gives you, and it only works for videos you consciously file at the moment you save them. Nobody goes back and sorts two years of Favorites retroactively.

Liked videos: the heart

Hearting is not saving. Liked videos live in a separate tab on your profile, and it's the one with a privacy setting attached. Favorites are private, but the liked tab has its own visibility control that may not be set the way you assume.

The workarounds, and what each one costs

• Build Collections religiously. Works, but only going forward, and only if you file at save time. It does nothing for the backlog and still gives you no search.
• Scroll and hope. Fine up to a hundred or so saves. Past that the thumbnails stop being distinguishable, especially for video.
• Screenshot the good ones. Now it's in your camera roll with eight thousand other images and no caption, no link, and no way back to the original.
• Send it to yourself in a chat. Searchable, which is genuinely better. But it's buried in a conversation and mixed in with everything else you've ever sent.

Each one trades a different thing away. None of them gives you the two things you actually want: type a word, get the video back.

What finally works
